Carer Skills: A 30 minute overview

If you are a working carer or a service provider supporting carers’ of older people, join us for a quick overview of our new carer skills program. We have a quick look at the six modules and instructional videos created to build the practical skills and knowledge carers may need in their caring role.

The session will focus on:

  • The topics in each training module
  • How to search for your topic of interest
  • Where to go for additional support.

At the end of the session participants will receive a link to the Carer Skills Modules and video series.

You will require access to a computer with speakers (a microphone and video camera are a bonus). Training is delivered using ZOOM. Carers NSW will send you instructions about how you can join the session on confirmation of your registration.

The duration for this workshop is 30 minutes.

 

Carer Skills Introduction for Carers

You may be new to caring for an older person, experiencing a change in your caring role or simply want to refresh your skills. Join us for an introduction to six carer skills modules for carers. You may then feel confident reading through the modules at your own pace.

The session will focus on:

  • The topics in each training module
  • How to search for your topic of interest
  • Strategies to address the needs of the person you support
  • Where to access up to date information
  • Who can support you in your caring role.

At the end of the session participants will receive a link to the Carer Skills Modules and video series.

You will require access to a computer with speakers (a microphone and video camera are a bonus). Training is delivered using ZOOM. Carers NSW will send you instructions about how you can join the session on confirmation of your registration.

The duration for this workshop is 1.5 hours.

 

Carer Skills Course

This 6 week interactive, online course helps carers to build their practical skills, knowledge and confidence in caring for an older person.

The sessions will focus on:

  • Week 1: The different approaches to caring, communication techniques
  • Week 2: Access to services and supports, planning ahead, financial support
  • Week 3: Strategies to take care of your own health and wellbeing
  • Week 4: Techniques to assist with daily activities like showering, eating, transport
  • Week 5: Moving someone safely, including common transfers and instructional videos
  • Week 6: Strategies to assist with health care tasks like emergencies, medications, falls, palliative care and life after caring.
At the end of each week participants will receive an electronic copy of the booklet and a link to the website page.

You will require access to a computer with speakers (a microphone and video camera are a bonus). Training is delivered using the ZOOM platform. Carers NSW will send you instructions about how you can join the session on confirmation of your registration.

Th​e duration of this course is 6 weeks, with carers welcome to attend a 2 hour workshop every week, or select which weeks are of interest to them.
